Polarity Therapy: Polarity Therapy was developed by Dr. Randolph Stone, who conducted a thorough investigation of the human energy field in the healing arts over the course of his 60 year medical career. During a session of Polarity Therapy, Elizabeth will use gentle to firm touch to systematically remove blockages and restore balance to the electromagnetic energy flows of your body. While you relax, imbalances in the body, emotions and mind are addressed using reflex points along your energy pathways, thus improving overall health. 60mn/80mn

CranioSacral Therapy: CranioSacral Therapy as developed by Dr. John Upledger has been widely researched for its broad implications for improving health. During your CranioSacral session, Elizabeth will evaluate your body's craniosacral rhythm and monitor the rhythmic motion as it expresses through your craniosacral system and your connective tissue. Gentle interventions are then employed to release stress, asymmetries and restrictions that have compromised the body. In addition to its benefits for the central nervous system and the immune system, clients report a deep experience of relaxation and rejuvenation. 80mn

Myofascial Release: Myofascial release work, as taught by the Upledger Institute, is a natural extension of CranioSacral Therapy and moves beyond the focus on cranial, spinal and sacral areas to evaluate and address the areas of the trunk and extremities that are intimately connected through the fascial web. During a Myofascial Release session Elizabeth will work deeply to release restrictions in the connective tissue, that can result from present or past stress, trauma or poor body habits, resulting in increased ease and freedom of movement. 80mn

Integral Hatha Yoga: Elizabeth will serve as your guide in creating a hatha yoga practice that fits your personal needs. Drawing from her 27 years of practice and instruction, as well as her therapeutic knowledge of the body, she will assist you in developing a personal practice. Your practice will include a balance of individually modified postures (asana),breath work (pranayama) and meditative practice (dhyana) designed to bring your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual natures into greater health and harmony. 60mn/80mn

About Elizabeth Denison:

Education: Elizabeth has been actively involved in the exploration of body, mind and spirit for the past 30 years. She holds a BA in Psychology from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University (1975, Honors Graduate). Her undergraduate experience included Masters Level coursework in Counseling and research investigating Effective Communications for Health Care Professionals at Vanderbilt University. After graduation Elizabeth was employed as a Research Assistant by Vanderbilt School of Nursing and accepted to the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at Vanderbilt University before she decided to expand her studies outside of academia.

Integral Hatha Yoga: After careful soul searching, Elizabeth's interest in understanding the "nature of being human" took an new direction. First introduced to Hatha Yoga in 1973 at the Integral Yoga Center in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, she began to study in earnest in 1976 at The Ashram Integral Yoga Institute in Burlington, Massachusetts under the tutelage of Joanne Sherwood. This approach to the practice of yoga was introduced to the United States by Yogiraj Sri Swami Satchidananda in the early 1970's and offers a balanced approach including asana, pranayama, meditation, and healthy life style recommendations. These are designed to develop every aspect of the individual: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual and to bring these aspects into balanced expression, thus ultimately transcending our ordinary experience and knowing our Divinity.

In 1977 Elizabeth received her Hatha Teacher Certification. Her current practice and teaching style integrate key aspects of Ashtanga Yoga as well, including a focus on the yogic breath and vinyasa to create a fluid asana practice with a strong meditative component. Elizabeth first studied Ashtanga Yoga with Thom and Beryl Birch Bender at an Omega Institute Yoga Intensive on St. John, BVI in 1999. She continued her Ashtanga practice with Kimberly and Jonas Zev Amberger at Fitness Yoga in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and now attends classes at It's Yoga, Calistoga. Elizabeth currently teaches Integral Hatha Yoga at The Spa at Auburge du Soliel and offers private instruction through Simply Wonderful Integrative Bodywork.

Professional Bodywork Training: Elizabeth joined the Newburyport Massage Collective in 1977 and was introduced to Swedish Massage by instructor Gail Straub. She trained in Benjamin Deep Muscle Massage with Kathy Weiveg, RN of the Benjamin Institute in 1979. This broadened her knowledge and developed her skills in sports, trauma and stress related massage techniques. She began professional practice in 1980 at the YWCA in Newburyport, Massachusetts. In addition to developing her hands on experience, Elizabeth began to notice, question and work intuitively with the energy flows in her client's bodies. Her desire to understand this phenomena led her to the study of Polarity Therapy where she found a natural home working with a scientific method developed by Dr. Randolph Stone. This healing modality systematically removes blockages and restores balance to the electromagnetic energy flows of the body, often addressing symptomatic expressions of imbalance in the body, emotions and mind, and improving overall health. Elizabeth first certified in Polarity Therapy through the Polarity Realization Center of Ipswich, Massachusetts directed by Nancy Anne Risley in 1984. She incorporated this deeper level understanding into her now independent practice at The Opening Space in Newburyport, Massachusetts where she first combined her Bodywork Practice with Yoga Instruction. She received advanced training and an additional certification in Polarity Therapy in 1989 through The Polarity Balancing Center of Boulder, Colorado with Maruti Seidman. Elizabeth has maintained her RPP, Registered Polarity Practitioner status through the national regulatory organization, the American Polarity Therapy Association, since 1989.

Elizabeth's work also integrates her continuing education through the Upledger Institute established by Dr. John Upledger . She began her study of CranioSacral Therapy and Myofascial Release with The Institute in 1988 and has completed CranioSacral Therapy I and II, SomatoEmotional Release I, and the written exam portion of her CranioSacral Therapy Certification. When incorporating CranioSacral Therapy in therapeutic bodywork the practitioner evaluates the rhythmic activity of the client's craniosacral motion as it expresses via their fascial motion, then uses gentle release techniques to remove asymmetries and restore range of motion in the connective tissues. These adjustments address a wide range of symptoms, are linked to the health of the immune system and improve overall function.
